Note 1 to entry: Veiling glare lightens and reduces the contrast of the darker parts of an image.

Note 2 to entry: Formerly the term "ambient flare" was used, but this term is deprecated.

Note 3 to entry: This entry was numbered 17-1394 in CIE S 017:2011.
