Matters related to Colour Rendition

This research forum (RF) is aligned with the current CIE research strategy (2023–2027), specifically its overarching theme #2: ‘Towards inclusive, equitable lighting,’ and its topical theme #6: ‘Measuring, modelling, perceiving, and reproducing colour.’ The RF will provide a platform for discussion, information sharing, and data exchange to support the development of a comprehensive method that characterizes all colour rendition aspects of white-light sources and lighting systems for general lighting purposes. Topics to be addressed and discussed may include a literature review of existing methods for characterizing the colour rendition properties of white-light sources; a review of CIE activities and publications (e.g., the use of 10-degree CMFs instead of 2-degree CMFs, the use of LMS cone-fundamental-based CMFs (CIE 254:2024, RF05), CAM16-UCS (TC 1-100), and/or a new chromatic adaptation transform (JTC 16), including the ipRGCs (TC 1-101), visual effects such as the Hunt Effect, Bezold–Brücke Effect, and their impact on colorimetry and the lighting community; and creating an overview of the desired colour rendition-related specification items (from the perspectives of manufacturers, designers, specifiers, and consumers) for describing colour ‘quality’ for a selected set of application areas and target groups.

This RF is open to all individuals with interest and expertise in this topic.
