The International Commission on Illumination (CIE) is a scientific and technical non-profit, non-governmental organization devoted to international co-operation and exchange of information among its members on all matters relating to the art and science of light and lighting and associated topics.
The recent events in Ukraine have disturbed all of us deeply and there will be many consequences in the short-term and the long-term. Offences against international law are to be condemned and our thoughts are with those directly affected.
At this challenging time, it is important to remember that CIE is the umbrella organization of all of its individual National Committees, having a mandate of global cooperation on purely scientific and technical matters. Fundamentally, the isolation and exclusion of important scientific communities is harmful to all. Progress on global challenges relies on open dialogue and collaboration.
The CIE Code of Ethics is our guiding principle for cooperation. We treat all persons fairly regardless of race, religion, gender, disability, age, or national origin. We adhere to the highest principles of personal and scientific integrity at all times. We hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of the public, and the protection of the environment, and condemn armed conflicts now and into the future.
On behalf of the CIE,
Dr. Peter Blattner
CIE President
