Since 1913, CIE, which has continued its activities on a voluntary basis under a global non-profit umbrella, is continuing its journey with a new organizational structure and research strategy adopted in 2023. In this new era, alongside supporting and developing lighting education and volunteering mechanisms, digitalization goals in all applications, especially publications, come to the forefront. These new goals will be explained in the webinar by Dr. Jennifer A. Veitch, President of the CIE for the period 2023 - 2027, and will be elaborated on by ATMK Vice President Prof. Dr. Sermin Onaygil, who is also a member of the CIE Governing Board during this period.

"The CIE looking back, looking ahead: Celebrating 100 years of V(LAMBDA) and previewing new developments"

Dr. Jennifer A. Veitch

Presentation Abstract: The International Commission on Illumination (Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage, CIE) is the global umbrella organization for lighting science and standards in all fields related to light, lighting, and optical radiation. This year we celebrate the centenary of the spectral luminous efficiency function V(λ), which underpins the system of the physical measurement of light and which has a special place in the historical development of the ClE itself. This presentation will give a brief overview of this history and then turn to the exciting future ahead. At its 30th Session in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in September 2023, the ClE took on a new organizational structure, launched a new Research Strategy, and began to develop new initiatives to support lighting education and students. We are working on plans to support our volunteers, and to increase our use of digitization in publications. The presentation will update all of these areas, and end with a call for volunteers to assist in the work of the ClE.

Bio: Dr. Jennifer A. Veitch serves as the President of the CIE for the 2023-2027 term. She is a psychological scientist with expertise in environmental psychology and has been a Research Officer at the National Research Council of Canada since 1992. Dr. Veitch investigates the interactions of people and their physical environments, including the effects of lighting quality and light sources on performance, mood, and health. Her research is published in scientific journals and also influences recommendations and standards through the CIE, ISO, and the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES). Dr. Veitch is a Fellow of national and international associations in lighting and psychology.
