Possible effects of daylight and indoor lighting on circadian rhythms of the skin

RF Number RF-08

This RF is investigating possible effects of daylight and indoor lighting on circadian rhythms of the skin, including aspects such as:

  1. Mechanisms of circadian skin cycles.
  2. Skin diseases with symptoms associated with circadian skin cycles.
  3. Possible relationship of skin disorders to chronodisruption.
  4. Indoor and outdoor lighting and circadian skin cycles.
  5. Phototherapy to treat skin disorders.

The objective of this Research Forum is to make an updated review of the existing bibliography of: Functioning of the circadian cycles of the skin and the effects of chronodisruption on the health of the skin. Each range of light that the ozone layer allows to pass through, from infrared to ultraviolet, in relation to its depth of penetration, chromophores and reactivity of the same that absorb each range of the mentioned light; currently known effects of the absorption or reaction of each range of light in each layer of the skin. Possible effects of light absorbed through the skin on the functioning of its circadian cycles.
