Aberdeen Archives, Gallery & Museums (AAGM) is seeking to commission an artist(s) to produce new work for SPECTRA Festival of Light 2025. The piece will be displayed in Aberdeen Art Gallery’s Sculpture Court for the duration of the festival before being accessioned into the city’s museum and gallery collections.

The commission will build on 2024’s successful SPECTRA collaboration with artists Heinrich and Palmer, resulting in the large-scale projection 'Winds of Change', inspired by Aberdeen’s rich maritime past, present and future.

What is SPECTRA?

SPECTRA, Scotland’s premier festival of light, is commissioned by Aberdeen City Council and offers visitors a programme of free to view artworks that light up the city. The award-winning four-day family-friendly festival transforms iconic locations across the city centre with projections, light installations, interactive light-based sculptures, and immersive illuminated experiences.

The SPECTRA festival attracted over 100,000 visits to the city last year, with over 26,000 visitors to the Art Gallery over four days. The Festival continues to go from strength to strength, with a programme showcasing work by internationally renowned artists and producers.
