CIE is pleased to announce its cooperation with LS 2026 Athens, the IEEE Sustainable Smart Lighting World Conference, taking place from 2–4 December 2026 in Athens, Greece. LS 2026 Athens is a CIE co-branded and CIE-supported IEEE event, reflecting the close collaboration between CIE and IEEE in advancing knowledge exchange and innovation in sustainable smart lighting. The event is organised in cooperation with the CIE National Committee of Greece.
CIE and IEEE share areas of interest across lighting technology, applications and smart systems, with particularly strong connections among experts working on outdoor lighting and related topics within CIE Division 4 Transportation and Exterior Applications. These existing networks provide a strong basis for knowledge exchange and collaboration between the two organisations. The connections between the two organisations are also reflected in the involvement of individual experts. Prof. Georgios Zissis, Chair of the IEEE committees involved in LS 2026 Athens, is currently a member of CIE TC 4-61 Artificial Lighting and its Impact on the Natural Environment, and Chair of CIE JTC 19 Terms and Definitions of Horticultural Lighting. His ongoing involvement in CIE technical work further demonstrates the strong overlap between the CIE and IEEE lighting communities.
LS 2026 Athens will bring together the international lighting community to exchange knowledge across lighting science, smart systems, sustainability, design, education, policy and professional practice. The conference will address a wide range of topics, including lighting technology and innovation, sustainability and energy efficiency, human-centric lighting, architectural, urban and heritage lighting, AI and smart lighting control, as well as measurement, standards, education and practice.
