CIE at the IES Roadway Lighting Committee Meeting in Toronto

Toronto, Canada

The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Roadway Lighting Committee (RLC) develops recommendations for roadway and street lighting to support all road users, including drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. The committee holds regular meetings to review research, as well as to develop and maintain the documents under its responsibility.

CIE President Dr. Jennifer Veitch was pleased to be invited to the RLC’s Spring 2025 meeting in Toronto, held from March 25-27, where she delivered a short presentation titled "Overview of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) and Exterior Lighting." Her talk provided an update on current CIE activities, with a particular focus on those related to roadway lighting.

Dr. Veitch emphasized that the existing connections between RLC members and the CIE could be easily strengthened by RLC members joining their respective National Committees, bringing their expertise to CIE Technical Committees, or attending the CIE 2025 Midterm Meeting in Vienna.
