EURODARK 2026 – the 17th European Symposium for the Protection of the Natural Night – will take place on 5–6 October 2026 in Kaunertal, Austria, following the Sternenparktreffen (Dark Sky Park Meeting) on 4 October. Organised by the Tyrolean Environmental Ombudsoffice and the European Light Pollution Coalition, the symposium is hosted by Stefanie Suchy of the Tyrolean Environmental Ombudsoffice, who is also an active member of the CIE Austrian National Committee, a CIE expert and a member of the Board of the Austrian Lighting Technology Society (Lichttechnische Gesellschaft Österreichs – LTG). The event will bring together researchers, lighting professionals, policymakers and environmental experts to discuss the protection of the natural night and the growing challenges of light pollution.
The symposium addresses topics that are closely aligned with current and future CIE work on the measurement and application of light and its effects on people and the environment. The CIE will also be represented in the scientific programme by Prof. Valéry Ann Jacobs, Editor of CIE Division 2 Physical Measurement of Light and Radiation, who will deliver a keynote lecture at the symposium. This collaboration reflects the shared commitment of the organisations to advancing the science and application of light while addressing its environmental impacts.
The Sternenparktreffen on 4 October will be conducted in German and aims to strengthen collaboration among Dark Sky Parks and organisations involved in the certification process across the German-speaking region. The international EURODARK 2026 Symposium, held in English on 5–6 October, will provide a platform for exchanging knowledge and practical experience on light pollution, policy development, lighting technologies and environmental protection.
