normalized detectivity, <of a detector>

D*

detectivity, D, normalized to take into account two important parameters of the detection system, the sensitive area, A, of the detector and the measurement bandwidth, Δf

where Φm is noise equivalent power

Note 1 to entry: The concept "normalized detectivity" is realistic only if the responsivity and noise output of the detector are frequency independent throughout the frequency range under consideration and if the noise equivalent input varies as the square root of the detector area; this is not always the case.

Note 2 to entry: The normalized detectivity is expressed in metre hertz to the power one half per watt (m⋅Hz1/2⋅W−1).

Note 3 to entry: This entry was numbered 845-05-66 in IEC 60050-845:1987.

Note 4 to entry: This entry was numbered 17-827 in CIE S 017:2011.
